Not all sugar is bad

They say sugar is bad for you. But "they" say a lot. I've been using Sugarsync for a while now and it isn't bad. It isn't bad at all!

Sugarsync is a service with a small application that takes care of something many people struggle with. You work on files from different computers and you wonder about how to back up your files. Both issues are addressed when you start using Sugarsync.

Sugarsync runs in the background and automatically syncs certain folders on your local disk to your Sugarsync account. So you always have a backup of your files. Besides that you can add "computers" to your account so you can see and work with the same set of files from different computers. I use it now from my work laptop (running windows) and from my windows pc at home and from my Macbook Pro at home. Three computers, different systems, one set of files.

The files are all stored on your local disk. So you can work with them without having a network connection. Your applications think (and they're right) that the files are just normal local files. Sugarsync will do all the uploading/downloading for you in the background.

But there's even more. Your mobile device (iPhone, Blackberry or Windows Mobile) can access all files thanks to the Sugarsync App. From my iPhone I can read all my documents (or spreadsheets or presentations) and e-mail them to other people all from my iPhone. It's great, you carry your whole fileserver in your pocket.

Check it out, there's a free account with 2 GB of storage.

Hi Ian,
Of course I had to try it out and indeed it works very nicely.

I would like to point out that besides sharing your own data, and having an online copy of your local data, you also have the possibility to create an Online only version of data in the "Web Archive" section. This will make it possible to get rid of the files on your file system and have an online copy only!

great... I will be playing around with it more, and if I like it a lot upgrade to a paid version.
(And Indivirtual could get a corporate version in which we can add business documents up to 250GB now!)

You can also use the streaming music option, by the way

Indivirtual already has a corporate version. That's what my experience is based on. But when the new account sharing options are available, we will expand the usage of Sugarsync in our company for sharing documents in the teams.
